The Kazafani Boat: a digital journey into our past

Sorin Hermon, Cyprus Institute

Space: the final frontier...to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before - everyone knows this famous phrase of Star Trek's captain log entries. But what if we change the word "space" with the word "PAST"? New technologies, immersive, collaborative, 3D, game engines, virtual reality are all familiar words that open new opportunities to "digitally" fulfil an old dream of humankind - time travelling!

Sorin will present how modern research in digital technologies for cultural heritage offers the ticket to such a journey and how new (unseen before) aspects of the past are revived through such technologies.

Sorin Hermon is Assistant Professor at the Cyprus Institute in Cyprus.
