Some artefacts pose problems when trying to exhibit them in a museum. Coins, for example, are so small and precious that they need special display cases. But that means they are difficult to see in detail and can only be viewed from one side.
The Museo Nazionale di San Matteo, in Pisa, has enlisted 3D technology to overcome these problems and has taken a different route to present its medieval coin collection.
Using a custom-built 3D programme, visitors can now turn coins over, zoom in close and learn more about their various features – all in 3D.
