Naples Theatre

The ingenuity of 3D reconstruction is revealing the form and function of a Roman theatre while sparking a very 21st-century debate.

Naples Theatre had an important role in Roman times, its actors and orators attracting huge audiences from every rank of society. Many centuries later, it lies buried beneath the labyrinthine streets and buildings of the modern city.

Now, 3D experts are using archaeological evidence to “rebuild” this once magnificent structure and unlock its past. The results are also provoking debate on the use of 3D tools to reconstruct and share our ancient heritage.
